![]() ![]() With Timelapse in Google Earth, 20 million satellite photos from the past 37 years have been embedded into Google Earth, allowing users to explore changes to our planet's surface over time. In the biggest update to Google Earth since 2017, you can now see our planet in an entirely new dimension: time. The rate that of warmth is also “unprecedented over decades to millennia. The USGS, along with NASA, the European Commission, and the European Space Agency, has been critical in the provision of imagery for this new version of Google Earth Timelapse that shows visual evidence of global changes spanning nearly 40 years. While the planet has gone through warming and cooling cycles over the last 650,000 years (seven recorded cycles of glacial advance and retreat), the current warming trend is of particular significance because it is extremely likely (with greater than 95% probability) that it is the result of human activity since the mid-20th century. As NASA shows, there is inarguable scientific evidence for the warming of Earth’s system. The Earth’s climate has been rapidly warming over the course of an astoundingly short period of time. For example, the retreat of the Columbia Glacier in Alaska is captured in the “Warming Planet” tour. Timelapse in Google Earth shows the rapid change on our planet in context through five thematic stories. Google Earth takes you on a guided tour of each topic to better understand them,” Moore continues. “As we looked at what was happening, five themes emerged: forest change, urban growth, warming temperatures, sources of energy, and our world’s fragile beauty. Those videos can be used in their native MP4 state or watched on YouTube. Additionally, the tech giant has uploaded more than 800 timelapse videos in both 2D and 3D for public use here. ![]() ![]() A post shared by Google Earth Timelapse can be accessed here, and the search bar allows you to choose any place on the planet that you wish to explore over time. ![]()
